About Us
Our Purpose:

Our purpose at Sunbeam Children's Center of STUMC is to glorify God and create sunbeams for Jesus by providing a safe, fun place where children can grow socially, intellectually, spiritually, emotionally, and physically. We will partner with families to lay the spiritual foundation for children to become followers of Jesus Christ as God instructs us in Deuteronomy 6:6-7 which states,
"These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts.
Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home
and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up."
It is important to the staff at Sunbeam Children's Center (SCC) to recognize the individuality of each child and to care for each child accordingly.
Welcome to the Sunbeam Children's Center of St. Thomas United Methodist Church! It is our prayer that every child will have a fun, educational time while here.
What We Do:

We provide care for children from 6 weeks to 6 years old. Each baby will be provided individual care specific to their needs while getting the social and play time required. Pre-Toddlers and Toddlers are introduced to a daily schedule while maintaining the individual needs of young children. Our two's, three's and four's will continue having a more structured day with the introduction of theme-based curriculum and an emphasis on letter and number age-appropriate activities. Each child in Sunbeam Children's Center will be exposed to Bible stories. Depending on the age group, these activities range from simple Bible stories to a 20-minute chapel time listening to the story and singing appropriate songs.

We are located in St. Thomas United Methodist Church at 8899 Sudley Road, Manassas, VA 20110. Phone number: 703-368-5161, ext. 109. The building was built in 1994. The Sunbeam Children's Center is located on the lower level of the church. We are convenient to families living in Manassas Park, Manassas City, Centreville, Gainesville, Haymarket and Prince William County in Northern Virginia.

Safety and Security

The safety of your child is a priority at Sunbeam Children's Center. Listed are some ways we ensure a safe and secure environment for your child.

Security

Center is equipped with an electronic access entry system. Only authorized staff and families may enter using their personal access number.

Center is equipped with close-circuit security cameras that monitor the entrance, hallways, stairwells, playgrounds, and areas around the Church.

Center is equipped with carbon monoxide and smoke detectors, and fire extinguishers.

Safety gates and cap electrical outlets are used.

All classroom doors can be locked from the inside.

No child is released to anyone without written authorization from the parent/guardian and proper identification.

A fingerprint based national criminal history search and sex offender check as well as a Central Registry Search for Child Abuse/Neglect are conducted on all employees.

All fall zones and landing areas are covered with mulch (licensed/state mandated amount)

Two separate play areas with age-appropriate equipment and age separation

The playground equipment meets all safety standards.

Emergencies

SCC has an emergency preparedness plan in place for severe weather, fire, lockdown conditions, and other disaster situations. An emergency evacuation plan is in place.
