Weekly Announcements

Sierra Leone Mission:  Applications re now being accepted for the October 2019 Helping Children Worldwide trip to Mercy Hospital and the Child Rescue Centre in Bo, Sierra Leone.  Projects are determined by the gifts and talents of the applicants and may include some medical, administrative, and educational support.  Projected trip dates are Oct. 19 - Nov. 2.  The application deadline for this team is April 30.  An interest meeting will be held on April 27, 10 am by teleconference or in person at the HCW office in Chantilly, VA.  For more information contact the church office at 703-368-5161 or sign up today.  

Faure Requiem Concert:  Mark your calender!  Our Chancel Choir will combine with Grace UMC for a choral orchestra concert on Saturday, April 13, 7 - 8 pm.  Dinner will precede the concert at 5 pm.

Rise Up With Jesus Easter Event:  Opportunity to Serve Saturday, April 20, 10:30am - Noon.  Visit the bulletin board in the Narthex to see all the exciting ways you can help make this outreach event happen!

Easter Candy and Egg Stuffers Needed:  Plastic Easter Eggs are available in the Narthex to take home and fill with wrapped candy (please no candy with nuts).  Please fill in batches of 12 and return to the collection bins in the Narthex by Tuesday, April 16.  Families might donate 3 dozen (typically 1 bag of candy or more.) These will be used during our annual Easter Egg hunt at our Rise Up with Jesus event.  Thank you for your help with this outreach event for families in our church and community as we share the good news!

Red Cross Blood Drive:  Monday, April 1, 2-7pm in the Fellowship Hall.  Right now, the American Red Cross has a severe shortage of type O blood donations and urges type O donors - as well as eligible donors of all blood types - to give now to help ensure lifesaving patient care isn't impacted this spring.  Our blood drive can make a big difference treating transplant and cancer patients, trauma victims, children in need and many others.  We accept walk-ins in welcome!

Do You Like To Read?  The Media Circle would love to have you join us.  Each month the group selects a book to read and discuss or a movie to watch.  Meetings also include a time of fellowship and prayer.  We meet on the first Friday of the month at 7 pm in the church library.  For more information, please contact Teresa Hayes at This email address is being protected from spambots. All Church Work Day!  All are invited to join in a little spring cleaning on Sunday, April 7, 11am - 4 pm, with lunch served at 12:15.  It's time to prepare our building and grounds for the guests we expect for worship on Easter Sunday!  Sign up for shift #1 (11am - 2pm) or Shift #2 (1 - 4pm) on your Connect Card.  All ages welcome for a variety of tasks both inside and outside from cleaning, organizing, mulching, weeding, etc.  Wear suitable clothes to worship that day that you don't mind getting dirty and please bring work gloves.  Questions or more information, speak with trustees, Will Ameen or Don Rickerson.

Easter Flowers:  Orders begin this week, Sunday, March 17th between services and continues through March 31.  Potted lilies, daffodils and tulips as well as gorgeous geranium baskets are available to decorate the Sanctuary on Easter Sunday - then to take home with you after services are over.  Ther geraniums last all summer!  Prices are $8 and $12

2nd Family Annual Sock Hop :  Saturday, March 30th, 5 - 9 pm.  Come rock with the Praise Band and wear your best 50s and 60s attire and you may win the grand prize for our costume contest.  Dinner is traditional dinner fare (hamburgers, hotdogs, french fries and milkshakes).  For more details, please see Merv Lyle or Renee Kinnear.

Calling all Crafters:  The UMW crafters are now working on projects for some seasonal mini-bazaars as well as the Annual Christmas Bazaar, Thursdays at 9:30am in Room 300.  Join to help out for a day or for the duration.

New Summer Camps for Kids:  This summer, our children's ministry plans to host several day camps for 6 - 11 year olds in addition to VBS.  Mark your calendars now so you don't miss out:

  • Sports Camp, June 17 - 21, 9am - 4 pm
  • Science Camp, June 24 - 28, 9 am - 4 pm
  • VBS, July 8 - 12 (8:45 am - 12:15 pm, free)
  • Cooking Camp, July 15 - 19, 9 am - 4 pm
  • Music & Arts Camp, July 22 -26, 9 am - 4 pm

Registration opens March 1; cost is $125 per camp week, price increases to $150 after May 1.  After Care from 4-5 pm is an additional $25.

START Missions This Spring:  The START team will participate in two missions this spring.  The first is in Swansboro, NC from March 24-31.  The second will be in Danville, VA from April 14-18  As always ALL SKILL LEVELS ARE WELCOME.  Additionally, youth are welcome to participate in the Danville mission.  We request a parent other responsible adult accompany each youth.  Anyone with interest in either mission should contact Cliff Farrar at This email address is being protected from spambots. D.C. Homeless Mission:  Our next D.C. Homeless mission is April 7th.  For information on items needed, please see the list on the Welcome Table or visit our Website  at stthomasumc.org.  Sign up on the Connect card if you are interested in going on the trip.
