START Fall Trip Planning:  Swansboro, NC is our next scheduled mission during the week of September 15th.  Help us solidify those plans or alter them to maximize our participation.  A meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 7 pm in the Fellowship Hall.  Join us if you can help for any portion of the trip.

SPARK Progress Report:  The SPARK Team invites the entire church to come hear more about the customized blueprint for ministry currently being designed to support our 3-5 year strategic plan.  YOU are part of the process!  Join us in the Sanctuary, July 28th at 12:30, to hear directly from the SPARK Team and ask any questions that you may have.  Let us know you plan to attend by signing up on your Connect Card.

Christmas Dinner in July:  Are you looking for something to beat the July heat?  Come to the "Christmas Day Dinner" on Tuesday, July 30th, 5:30 pm.  (We will serve until 6:30 pm.)  We will be featuring our Christmas Day Dinner menu:  Roasted Turkey, Baked Ham, Mashed Potatoes with Gravy, Cornbread Stuffing, Green Beans, Rutabagas, Sweet Potatoes, Dinner Rolls and Pumpkin Pie.  Wear Christmas colors to celebrate and to make the room festive.  Sign up on the Connect Card today!

Open Jam with Praise Band, Tuesday, July 30, 7:30 pm:  Bring your own instrument or borrow one of ours.  This is your chance to sit in with the band.  Join us for a very informal jam session and have some fun and fellowship!

79-Day Summer Challenge:  This summer, we challenge YOU to host a party or facilitate a get-together with your neighbors and then post a picture from the event on our Facebook Page (with the hashtag, #BetterTogether).  Each week, we'll share testimonies in worship and those who've hosted a get-together will receive a t-shirt.  The 79-Day Summer Challenge runs from June 16 thru September 3.  Ready. Set,  Go! 

Helping Hands Mission, August 1-2, 2019:  Kids Care 2 is attending an exciting two-day mission experience for children offered to all member churches of the Virginia Annual Conference of the UMC. All rising 4th - 6th Graders and parents are welcome to join!  We hope to see you then as we serve together.  The deadline to register is June 2, sugn up on your Connect Card to learn more!.

Saturday, August 3. "All Hands on Deck" Service Project:  Help bless our neighbors with a free community car wash.  Any food or cash donations will support our Food Pantry & Children & Youth Programs.

Friday, August 9th - St. Thomas at Potomac Nationals:  It's "Ace Ventura Pet Detective Night:.  Bring your pet to the ballpark and enjoy the Washington Nationals' Minor League high at Potomac Nationals vs Lynchburg Hillcats in Woodbridge.  Sign up on Connect Card.

Opportunity to Serve in Summer Sunday School with our Kids:  Will you consider serving in King's Kids over the summer?  This is a great way to try out our Children's Ministry with a short term commitment.  See the kiosk in the Narthex to sign up to invest in our children and have some fun with us in King's Kids over the summer months!

Lock Lomond Elementary School:  We would like to gather a team of 12 - 15 people to serve as liasons to Lock Lomond ES as we establish a partnership with them. (Sept. 2019 - May 2020).  Sign up on the connect card or in the office to help make a difference in a child's life.  To learn more, we will contact you.

Calling all Forrest Gumps:  Spring has sprung and so has the grass around Campus.  If you have ever wanted to drive a tractor and cut grass, here is your opportunity.  The church has 3 lawn tractors, a lawnmower and a couple of edgers that would love to be used by you.  Depending on weather, we normally cut grass on Wednesday or Thursday mornings so the campus looks nice for Sunday Service.  For those who can't make it during the morning hours there are plenty of opportunities in the evening.  If you are interested in helping out with the lawn this season, sign up on your Connect Card.  Questions, contact Will Ameen at This email address is being protected from spambots. Sunbeam Children's Center Registration:  We are accepting registration materials for the 2019-2020 school year for our Preschool and Day Care.  Our Day Care is open to children 6 weeks old to Pre-Kindergarten.  You can visit our website at www.stthomasumc.org/sunbeam or stop by the front office Monday - Friday 6:30 am - 6:30 pm.  Please ask for Veronica McGuin, Director or Sarah Hayes, Assistant Director.

New Summer Camps for Kids:  This summer, our children's ministry plans to host several day camps for 6 - 11 year olds in addition to VBS.  Mark your calendars now so you don't miss out:

  • Music & Arts Camp, July 22 -26, 9 am - 4 pm

Registration opens March 1; cost is $125 per camp week, price increases to $150 after May 1.  After Care from 4-5 pm is an additional $25.

D.C. Homeless Mission:  Our next D.C. Homeless mission is August 4th.  .  Sign up on the Connect card if you are interested in going on the trip.  We are in need of blue jeans (sizes 32 - 36), men's underwear (M & L), shorts, blankets, backpacks, washcloths, deodorant and toothpaste (travel size).  Please leave donations in the Collection bin in the Narthex..

Food Pantry:  Every Saturday 9 to 12 noon.  The Pantry is low on these staples:  cereal, canned tuna, and peanut butter.  Please leave your donated items in the box in the Narthex.  URGENT NEED for volunteers to pick up donated food at local grocery stores.  We need permanent and substitute volunteers.  If you are interested, please contact Lynn Furlong at 703-499-0243.  9am - 12pm volunteers are needed weekdays on Tuesday, Thursday & Friday to sort through donated items.  Questions please contact Samantha Daniel Food Pantry Coordinator at 703-368-5161 x 107 or at This email address is being protected from spambots.
