UMW Fall Bazaar:  October 19th from 9am to 2pm.  Something for everyone!!!  Crafts, good as new shop, jewelry, bake sale, food, etc.  Come one, come all.

Pupusa Fundraiser:  The El Salvador Mission Team will be selling Pupusas on Saturday, September 28th from 4-7 pm in front of the church.  Use the following link to pre-order:  https://forms.gle/9BqWcgDtjtMpdQ2Z6  Walk up sales welcome.  Proceeds will support the mission trips in November.

Calling all Men to the Game Plan for Life:  On Wednesday, October 2, Joe Gibbs (former Redskins Coach & NASCAR Team Owner) will be sharing his testimony over breakfast at Youth For Tomorrow from 7 to 9 AM.  Interested in learning more - sign up on your Connect Card or speak with Associate Lay Leader, Gordon Haines.

3rd Grade Bible Discovery:  Sunday, September 29 - October 13, 9:40 AM.  All 3rd graders are encouraged to participate in the two-session discovery experience located in Room 113 in preparation for receiving their Gift Bible from the Church.  Kids will learn why the Bible is important and how to use it on their own.  Class culminates with students receiving their own, dedicated Bible in worship on October 13th.  Questions contact Caleb (This email address is being protected from spambots. September OWLS Trip to Front Royal:  Designed for "Older, Wiser, & Livelier Seniors" the OWLS will be traveling on Friday, September 20th to visit Kay and Pete Polen in Front Royal.  Kay and Pete are former members of STUMC.  Bring a dish to share for our pot luck lunch.  We plan to meet at the church at 9:45 AM, leave promptly at 10 in the Church Van and return between 3-4 PM.  Please RSVP to Lynn Furlong at 703-499-0243 no later than Monday, September 16th.

Young Mom's Group - This group meets when school is in session on Friday mornings, 9:30 - 11 am in Room 305.  Childcare provided in Room 107 for toddlers and preschool children.  Infants welcome to join with mom.  This year, the group will be using Jen Hatmaker's book, Of Mess and Moxie, which is available from Amazon as a hardcover, kindle or audible book.  Join us beginning September 13th.

United Methodist Women's Circle:  The Dorcas Circle meets monthly September through June at the church on second Tuesdays at 1 pm in Room 300.  The first gathering is Tuesday, September 10th and all ladies are welcome to attend for Christian study, fellowship and refreshments.  Pleae call Joyce Wolfe at 703-368-7323 if you have questions.

Apple Pies!  It's apple pie season!  The United Methodist Women (and any friends that would like to help) will be making pies from September 18th thru October 16th.  Get yours today and help support mission with women and children - cost $12 per pie.  We will be taking pre-orders and taking fees each Sunday beginning September 15th.  You must pick up your pies the following Sunday after it is made.  Don't wait to sign up.  The team only makes 50 each week and they go fast. 

Choir Ministry is starting and all are invited to join in the fun!  Here's an overview of our choir ensembles and when they rehearse.

Children's Church Choir - Pre-K to K  Begins 9/15,  11AM - 12.  Kristi Swanson leads.

KIDZ Rock Choir - Grades 1 - 5  Begins 9/10,  6:15 - 7  Tristan Troyer leads.

JNS Choir - 6 - 12th grades.  Begins 9/4, 12 noon until 1PM..  Dom Izzo leads.

Tuesday  Night Dinner New “Pilot Program” for Kid’s Dine-in Meals:   Along with our regular menu, we will also have a kid’s dine-in entree which includes one of the regular menu sides and the dessert. Kids 5 years and under who select the kid’s dine- in entree, eat free with a paying adult, and kids 6-8 years who select the kid’s dine-in entree eat for $3.00 with a paying adult.

New Communications Request Form:  St Thomas’ Communication Committee has created a Communications Request Form, accessible through the website, that is a one-stop shop for submitting a request for announcements in newsletters, on Facebook, in the weekly bulletins and more.  This allows the same information to be shared in multiple places and saves you from having to alert multiple staff and lay leaders.  This form is available at : http://stthomasumc.org/resources/communications-request.html

Opportunity to Invest in the Next Generation:  We are  looking for older teens and young adults (with children) who are willing to take time to build relationships with our kid’s so they know they are loved by God and brought up in the faith.  There are many opportunities to invest in our children and teens depending on where your gifts are.  Take a moment  to visit the Bulletin Board in the Narthex to see our current needs and where God might lead you to help us accomplish our mission.  Please contact Caleb  Matthews with questions or next steps on how to get involved.

D.C. Homeless Mission:  Our next D.C. Homeless mission is October 6th .  Sign up on the Connect card if you are interested in going on the trip.  We are in need of blue jeans (sizes 32 - 36), men's underwear (M & L), shorts, blankets, backpacks, belts, washcloths, deodorant and toothpaste (travel size).  Please leave donations in the Collection bin in the Narthex..

Food Pantry:  Every Saturday 9 to 12 noon.  The Pantry is low on these staples:  cereal, canned tuna, and peanut butter.  Please leave your donated items in the box in the Narthex.  URGENT NEED for volunteers to pick up donated food at local grocery stores.  We need permanent and substitute volunteers.  If you are interested, please contact Lynn Furlong at 703-499-0243.  9am - 12pm volunteers are needed weekdays on Tuesday, Thursday & Friday to sort through donated items.  Questions please contact Samantha Daniel Food Pantry Coordinator at 703-368-5161 x 107 or at This email address is being protected from spambots.
