Mardi Gras Ball on Saturday, February 22 Kick off the year with the Evangelism & Outreach Committee-sponsored Mardi Gras Masquerade Ball in the Fellowship Hall, on Saturday, February 22, from 6 to 9 pm.  This fun event will be open to everyone in our community.  So if Jambalaya and Po Boy sandwiches sound good to you, invite your friends and come dance to live music from our Praise Band.  Formal Attire & Mask  Tickets $5 per person.

S.T.A.R.T. Fundraiser Breakfast will be held on Sunday February 23, 7:45 - 11 AM with a special guest speaker, Stephanie Hunt, to share wbout the needs and what's been accomplished so far in NC.  Come hungry - ready to eat for a great cause!

Pancakes & Ashes on Tuesday, February 25, 5:30 - 7 PM:  All are invited to join us in the Fellowhip Hall for dinner and activities as we begin the season of Lent.  The activities will take place as a part of dinner and are designed to help people of all ages prepare spiritually for Easter.  Worship will follow the pancake dinner at 6:30 pm in the Sanctuary where we're invited to reflect and receive the ashes.  All ages are welcome to particpate.

UMW Potluck Brunch:  Join us Saturday, February 29th at 9 AM in Rooms 300 - 306.  For women high school age and up.  Please bring a dish to share.  The Flower Gallery's owner, Doug Burroughs, will demonstrate flower arranging.

Box Tops for Education:  You can help our patner school, Loch Lomond ES with your everyday purchases!  The Mission Council is collecting Box Tops for Education labels to be given to Loch Lomond ES.  Every valid Box Top clip is worth $.10 for the school to use.  Just cut them off your everyday purchases (example :  ALL General Mills cereal boxes, yogurt, etc.) and bring to the church and place in the labeled box located in the Fellowship Hall.  If you have any questions, please contact Lori Perez at 703-967-8863.

S.T.A.R.T Trips - We are currently scheduled for two disaster relief trips to North Carolina.

  • Mission Trip 1 - March 8 - 15th.  This trip is planned to coincide with our friends from Charlottesville.  We expect to be housed in the new recovery center in Trenton, NC.  This facility has two mobile homes that each have 12 bunk beds.  They also have electrical and water hook-ups for trailers as well as a dump station.
  • Mission Trip 2 - April 5 - 9th.  This trip is being planned during Holy Week, from Palm Sunday to Maundy Thursday so that youth (15 and older) can participate during their Spring Break with their parents.

JNS Annual Yard Sale - Collections will begin April 20th.  The yard sale is inside the Fellowship Hall so it will happen rain or shine!  No need to haggle over price - buy a brown bag for $5 and fill it to the brim with anything that will fit!!!  Buy a box for $10.  Snacks will be available for purchase.  Don't forget to check out our "Good As New" and "Priced to Sell" area too!  Spots will also be sold if you want to sell your own treasures!  1 spot for $20 or 2 for #30.  Email This email address is being protected from spambots. Operation Christmas Child News:  This year we are starting a monthly collection:

  • January & February needs:  Winter Items:  hats, gloves/mittens, scarves, socks, fishing or sewing kits, clothesline. 
  • Non-liquid hygiene items:  toothbrushes, small tissues, mild bar soap, wash clothes, brushes/combs, fun band-aids, lip balms.

The UMW is sponsoring a trip to Lancaster, PA,  on April 25th, to see Queen Esther, with lunch at Bird-in-Hand Restaurant after the musical.  Cost is $140 per person (cash or check), non-refundable.  Tickets on sale in the Fellowship Hall between Sunday Services or by contacting This email address is being protected from spambots. Choir Ministry   Here's an overview of our choir ensembles and when they rehearse.

  • Sonshine Choir - Pre-K to K  Sunday 11AM - 12.  Kristi Swanson leads.
  • KIDZ Rock Choir - Grades 1 - 5    6:15 - 7  Tristan Troyer leads.
  • JNS Choir - 6 - 12th grades.   12 noon until 1PM..  Dom Izzo leads.

New Communications Request Form:  St Thomas’ Communication Committee has created a Communications Request Form, accessible through the website, that is a one-stop shop for submitting a request for announcements in newsletters, on Facebook, in the weekly bulletins and more.  This allows the same information to be shared in multiple places and saves you from having to alert multiple staff and lay leaders.  This form is available at : http://stthomasumc.org/resources/communications-request.html

D.C. Homeless Mission:  Our next D.C. Homeless mission is March 1st.  Sign up on the Connect card if you are interested in going on the trip.  We are in need of blue jeans (all sizes), men's underwear (M & L), hoodies, blankets, backpacks, belts, washcloths, deodorant and toothpaste (travel size). No women's or children's clothes.  Please leave donations in the Collection bin in the Narthex..

Food Pantry:  Every Saturday 9 to 12 noon.  The Pantry is low on these staples:  spaghetti sauce, and peanut butter.  Please leave your donated items in the box in the Narthex.  URGENT NEED for volunteers to pick up donated food at local grocery stores.  We need permanent and substitute volunteers.  If you are interested, please contact Lynn Furlong at 703-499-0243.  9am - 12pm volunteers are needed weekdays on Tuesday, Thursday & Friday to sort through donated items.  Questions please contact Jenny Miller, Food Pantry Assistant Coordinator at 703-368-5161 x 107
