Weekly Announcements

The OWLS are Back!!!  - On Friday, August 20, the OWLS will have their first adventure since the pandemic began. We are traveling to the beach house of Nancy and Bill Buchanan. This is always a favorite destination.

We will meet at the church at 8:45 AM and leave by 9:00 AM. We will be taking the church van with seating on a first come, first serve basis. We will also need others to provide transportation.

Everyone is asked to bring a dish to share and a lawn chair. Nancy and Bill will provide the beverages. Paper products and plastic-ware will be provided. Please RSVP to Marian Ludlow (703-361-4390) or Lynn Furlong (703-499-0234) by August 15. At that time let us know if you need to travel in the van or are able to drive others. We look forward to seeing everyone again.

Youth Car Wash Fundraiser - The STUMC Youth will host a Car Wash Fundraiser on Sunday, August 8 from 10 AM to 12:30 PM in the church parking lot! This is one of The PACK's 2nd "Home" Mission Weekend projects. All proceeds will be used to purchase the necessary items for a new Youth Center! Bring your dusty cars to church and go home shiny! Come support our students after the 9 AM worship service or before/after the 11 AM worship service! Any questions? Please contact Pastor Arum.

Welcome Team Volunteers:  We are looking for volunteers to serve as The Welcome Team: Ushers, Greeters, the Welcome Desk crew, the Check-In table crew, or Parking Assistants. Anyone who can welcome our church visitors with a big smile is the perfect candidate! Even children and youth can serve with their families!   No experience? No Worries! Training is provided.  You can sign up for Sundays when you are available. Check out the available spots here.  Any questions? The SON Advocates - St Thomas  is now partnering with  the SON (Serving our Neighbors) Advocates. They exist to serve and advocate for our neighbors experiencing homelessness by connecting them to services while offering Christ like love and friendship. The SON provides a mobile van that is stationed every Tuesday from 3pm until 7pm at Manassas Presbyterian Church on Ashton Avenue. Here they are establishing relationships with our homeless community, to help them get services to help them get out of homelessness. They also meet immediate needs by giving health kits, some clothing and snacks. The SON would like to be open every day of the week but they need volunteers. This is a local homeless mission, unlike our DC homeless mission where we traveled into DC. We are looking for as many people as possible to help and it happens during daylight hours. If you are interested or want more information, please send Lori Perez, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. your name and email. The SON has agreed to do a special virtual training for our volunteers. The training lasts 2 hours. This is your Mission Council at work.

New Communications Form - The Comuncations committee has created a Communications Request Form, accessible through the website, that is a one-stop shop for submitting a request for announcements in newsletters, on Facebook, in the weekly bulletins and more.  This allows the same information to be shared in multiple places and saves you from having to alert multiple staff and lay leaders.  This form is available at :

Food Pantry:  Every Saturday 9 to 12 noon.  The Pantry is low on these staples: toilet paper and paper towels.  Please leave your donated items in the box in the Narthex.  URGENT NEED for volunteers to pick up donated food at local grocery stores.  We need permanent and substitute volunteers.  If you are interested, please contact Lisa Detwiler at 703-623-5884.  9am - 12pm volunteers are needed weekdays to organize and sort food.  Questions please contact Jhenny Michalek, Food Pantry Coordinator at 703-368-5161 x 107.
