SERVE Dinner

We provide and deliver a complete dinner for 45 residents of the SERVE emergency shelter facility quarterly during the year.

SERVE is the Manassas campus of Northern Virginia Family Service. It is unique for its holistic approach to helping our community's most vulnerable individuals and families address a variety of needs on their paths to self-sufficiency. On the last Friday of January, April, June and September, St. Thomas UMC provides and delivers a complete dinner for 45 residents of the SERVE emergency shelter facility. The meal consists of a beef and noodle casserole, vegetables, cake/brownies, and a fruit-studded gelatin salad (specific recipes are provided for the casserole and for the gelatin salad). This dinner requires 10 volunteers to each prepare one of the menu items at home and deliver it to the church on the indicated Friday morning. Two volunteers then collect and deliver the meal to the shelter facility. Since serving dishes are not returned, disposal aluminum pans are available from the church kitchen to use when preparing items for this meal.
