In the United Methodist Church, Lay Leaders are members of the congregation that take an active role in the leadership of the church. These individuals typically serve in partnership with the pastor, act as connectors between church committees, serve the congregation, and intercede on the congregation's behalf with all governing bodies.
Every year at the fall Charge Conference, a Report of Nominations and Lay Leadership Development is presented and voted for approval by the members in attendance. This report includes all of the nominations for the committees on the church (i.e. Church Council, Board of Trustees, Lay Leaders, etc.)
