In the United Methodist Church, Lay Leaders are members of the congregation that take an active role in the leadership of the church. These individuals typically serve in partnership with the pastor, act as connectors between church committees, serve the congregation, and intercede on the congregation's behalf with all governing bodies.
Deb Crawford is the head Lay Leader this year (2019). She sings in the chancel choir, serves as head usher for the 9:40 AM service and has been very active with children and youth over the years.
Jhenny Michalek is our next Lay Leader (2020) and she sings with the Praise Band for the 9:40 AM service, works with the food pantry and has served on multiple mission teams to El Salvador. She is bi-lingual in both Spanish and English.
Gordon Haines is our newest Lay Leader, but not new to serving the church! Gordy has been involved in most aspects of the life of St.Thomas, serving on multiple committees and most recently completing his role as chair for the Staff Parish Relations Committee (our Human Resource committee). He also helps to facilitate the Saturday mornign Men's Group that meets each week.
If you are not familiar with any of our Lay Leaders, please stop by and take a moment to say hello and let us know how we can best serve you and our church. Deb is usually around for all three services as well as most Tuesday evenings, Jhenny can be found before and after the 9:40 service and also on Tuesday evenings after Praise Band rehearsal, and Gordy attends the 8:15 AM service and is around many Tuesday evenings as well. We’re happy to listen and help where and when we can. This is going to be a terrific year at St. Thomas!
